The prospect of going back to school fills some children with excitement, while others feel a sense of dread as their summer vacation comes to an end. But for many kids, education isn’t even an option. It’s a sad thing to think about, but an unfortunate reality that runs rampant throughout the country.
Thousands of children who have lost parents in the line of duty face the challenge of being able to afford college. When a military parent dies, oftentimes the family does not receive sufficient financial aid to cover their children’s education expenses. The Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation aims to change that by providing scholarships to children whose parents have sacrificed so much for our country.
The Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation has provided hundreds of children nationwide with scholarships to achieve their educational dreams and is continuing to do so by partnering with Caron on their World’s Biggest Stocking project. To stitch the World’s Biggest Stocking requires a lot of yarn, of course, and 15 cents of every skein of Caron United yarn purchased for the stocking goes directly to the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation. Knitters and crocheters across the country have been working hard all year making blanket squares that will ultimately be stitched into the stocking and unveiled this winter. Once the stocking is revealed, the knit and crochet blankets will be donated to military charities nationwide.
